How to reach The Infinisea
Crete has two main international airports. Both connect to Plakias by a beautiful drive through gorges and mountains — a hire car is the easiest way to get around the south coast.
Chania (CHQ)
About 95 km / ~1 hour 45 minutes by car — the closest international airport to Plakias, and a beautiful first drive south.
Heraklion (HER)
About 113 km / ~2 hours by car — Crete's busiest airport, with the widest choice of flights and car-hire desks.
The last stretch
01Land & drive
Pick up your hire car at the airport and follow the north-coast road towards Rethymno.
02Turn south
At Rethymno — about 33 km away — turn inland and climb toward the mountains of the south.
03Through the gorge
The road winds down through the spectacular Kourtaliotiko gorge before the sea suddenly opens up below.
04Arrive
